CELEBRATING CHOPIN

Learn about Chopin and how to play his Preludes

DO YOU LOVE CHOPIN? OR DO YOU KNOW CHOPIN?

1 March this year is Chopin's 208th birthday. A true genius in piano--both playing and composing, Chopin captivated the hearts of the public and peers of his time such as Liszt and Schumann. His music has continued to inspire contemporary pianists and music lovers.

To celebrate Frédéric Chopin's birthday, we have prepared a piano course focusing on his Preludes and other shorter and easier pieces, to guide any curious pianist like YOU into the world of Chopin.

Chopin's music isn't easy, beware. But our lessons are structured to help you learn and grow step by step, so you start with the easiest piece and work your way up, getting one step closer to playing like Chopin, the virtuoso himself.

EXPLORE CHOPIN'S ICONIC WORKS

Every pianist needs to at least know one Chopin piece. We have selected 13 pieces by Chopin, 10 of which coming from his Preludes, Op. 28, ready for you to learn and enjoy. These pieces are perfect for intermediate and advanced pianists to study to improve their techniques, expressiveness, and musicality.

Join Steven Paszkowski and Michelle Huang, our piano instructors, as they take you on a melodic journey down the memory lane with some of Chopin's iconic works.

OUR CHOPIN LESSONS LINEUP

We selected 12 pieces by Chopin, 10 of which from his Preludes Op. 28, and they will be released weekly. Here are the four lessons already published. Take a look!

LESSON 1

Frédéric Chopin's Sostenuto in E Flat

Our journey begin by learning to play Sostenuto in E flat.
Though
Sostenuto means “sustained," the piece is open to interpretation by the pianist.
While some play in a rhythmic manner to highlight the waltz-like feel of the piece, others might choose to lend a dreamy feel to the interpretation by playing at a slower tempo.

LESSON 2

Frédéric Chopin's Largo in E-Flat Major

In this lesson, we learn how to play this solemn yet poignant piece by renowned Polish composer, Frederic Chopin. We'll look at the harmonization, phrasing and fingering in detail, as well as playing this piece at a steady tempo.

LESSON 3

Frédéric Chopin's Mazurka in C Major, Opus 33 No. 3

Learn to play Chopin’s Mazurkas, Op 33 No. 3, one of the most popular mazurkas out of the set of four mazurkas for piano composed and published in 1838. The lesson focuses on the origin of the Mazurkas (Polish folk dance) and the similarities between the traditional dance and Chopin's musical interpretation. The piece blends in fun & complexity by introducing a great deal of repetition & classical techniques like counterpoint and fugues.

LESSON 4

Frédéric Chopin's Prelude in E Minor, Opus 28 No. 4

In this lesson, we learn to play one of Chopin’s most expressive and sorrowful piece. Steve Paszkowski teaches you how to control your tempo and how to voice right-hand melodies over the left-hand harmony. Fun fact: this piece was also featured in the film Five Easy Pieces (1970), where Jack Nicholson’s character played this piece.
