PIANO

Piano Etudes - Écossaise | Schubert | Piano Etudes

From the word for "Scottish" in French, écossaise was a popular dance style in Europe around the turn of the 19th century. Typically marked by a stout 2/4 time and heavily contrasting dynamics, the écossaise as presented at the piano affords the pianist good opportunities to demonstrate control over tempo and articulation. Check out our lesson on this short écossaise piece by Franz Schubert, as taught by in-house Liberty Park Music piano guru, West Troiano. Join us and watch the full lesson.

MUSIC THEORY

Ask a Music Theory Teacher - What is the Difference Between the Root and Bass of a Chord?

Another common area of music theory confusion is the difference between the root of a chord, and the bass of a chord: Which is which? Are they ever the same? How can you tell the difference between them when you see them in music? In this Q&A video, Liberty Park Music theory instructor Nicole DiPaolo shows us what's what. If you want to learn more join us for our music theory courses.
